Gavan's Story

Originally from Barham NSW, Gavan Thomson decided to write books at the age of ten when he won a  book called “Gimlet’s Oriental Quest” for the best essay in Grade 5 at Barham Central School. 60 years later he has finally succeeded. ‘Royal Descent’ is his first novel after more then 40 years of professional writing.
 From 1978 to 1981, he first lived and worked in Denmark, married a Dane and began studying Danish at Studieskolen, He has had a love affair with the Kingdom ever since and has been back many times.

Biography

Gavan is a 70 year old Anglo-Celtic man who grew up in Barham NSW alongside the mighty Murray.
He attended Barham Central School and then Kerang High School.  He went on to earn qualifications in Biochemistry, Community Health and Counselling. His serpentine career included work as a Biochemist, Mental Health Social Worker, Counsellor, Suicide Prevention Consultant, Mental Health Advocate and Translator. 
He lived in Copenhagen from 1978 to 1981 where he worked as a Cleaner at Illum and then as a Laboratory Technician in the Biophysics Department of Landbohojskolen, while learning Danish and living on Amager.
He has been a keen volunteer across the environmental, anti-nuclear and community health sectors and since 2012 as a Danish – English Translator for NODSS (Narcolepsy Association.)
He lives in Elphinstone, near Castlemaine Victoria, on a small orchard in the middle of town. Since his retirement in 2000 he has taken to writing and badminton with gusto.
